Port Waikato slip repairs

In late 2024, Nicholls and Uttinger Civil was engaged by Waikato District Council to undertake critical repairs on two significant road slips near Port Waikato, which were impacting access to the local community.

The project involved a range of complex civil works, including:

  • Construction of retaining walls using timber poles and MagnumStone blocks

  • Excavation and disposal of approximately 3,000m³ of material

  • Tree clearing to enable safe and efficient access

  • Installation of rock rip rap for scour protection

  • Full pavement reconstruction to restore road integrity

All works were carried out within a live stream environment, requiring strict adherence to resource consent conditions to protect the surrounding ecosystem.

Despite the challenging terrain and environmental sensitivities, the team delivered a robust and sustainable solution - restoring safe access and reinforcing the resilience of the local infrastructure.

Client feedback:

“Nicholls and Uttinger demonstrated great communication during the project.

Unforeseen circumstances or queries were raised early and approached in a proactive manner seeking best-for-project outcomes. There were rarely any surprises.”
